City Nature Challenge

Dear students,
This year, Göttingen and the surrounding area will be participating in the City Nature Challenge! The City Nature Challenge is a multi-day international bioblitz in which community naturalists observe and identify all forms of life in their hometowns or wherever they may find themselves. We will be exploring nature and increasing our knowledge of the biodiversity of Lower Saxony during the 4 days between the 25th of April and the 28th of April, 2025. The project will then be open from the 29th of April until the 4th of May for the identification of the observations.
Please join us for a week of fun, scientific exploration, and submit observations of life in our region using iNaturalist.org.
How to participate:
During the 4 days between 25 April and 28 April 2025, take pictures of plants, animals, and all forms of life in and around Göttingen. Upload your observations to iNaturalist.org using the iNaturalist app or the iNaturalist website before the 4th of May.
All iNaturalist observations located in the Göttingen Landkreis will automatically be included in our project. Animal sounds, such as birds and frogs, may also be recorded and uploaded. Visit parks, woods, meadows, heathlands, hedgerows, churchyards, village greens, riversides, ponds, and see what you can find. If there is a possibility that a plant or animal is likely to have been cultivated or put there by humans, please mark it Captive/Cultivated. All observations are valuable; you do not have to go far to contribute, even an insect visitor in your home is useful!
If you do not want to observe individually, but join us for an early morning bird tour:

Together, we will discover and observe the birds in our biotope and provide you with exciting background information. For those who like to use modern tools, we will show you different apps that can be used to explore and document the local birdlife based on their voices. Try these apps with us here!

Not suitable for children. Please bring rain/sun protection and a smartphone
